Professional headshot in the photo studio for Linkedin ?

Sorry, a passport photo is an ID photo following certain official rules ( per country) In fact it’s a funny story, but the general rules for European ID photos, that a lot of photography shops use ( a blue sheet with example photos), these photos were shot by me 20 years ago, and they are stil being used. But I don’t shoot ID photos myself, I want to see character, I want to shoot you from your best angle, so sorry, no ID pics here.

The copyright stays with the photographer, but in the usage license is a worldwide usage license for online and print usage for 10 years included with every image. That should be enough for normal use but we can always talk about it.

Certainly not. Hiring a photographer means hiring his experience in working with people, working with light, working with certain bone structures, and last but not least, his own personal post production.

Post production is everything happening after the photoshoot. I will first talk these things over with you before the shoot. Maybe you like mole, maybe you hate it…

Post production is first of all making a back up of all the pictures, so they don’t get lost.

Then the retouching can start:

• Color correction

• development according my personal taste

• solving hard shadows

• solving nose reflections (if I didn’t do it in advance with some matting powder)

• Putting another background in there when needed (extra fee)

• solving skin problems; e.g. pimples, moles, red skin, scars or chapped lips

• distractions; e.g. glasses glare or hair flyaways

• wrinkles (I will first ask)

• yellow or broken teeth when necessary

It can also imply improvements on your clothes, such as:

• removal of dandruff or hair 

• straightening your shirt

After this I deliver a gallery online where you can see your images and download what you need. They will stay online for a year, I back up 2 years.

Normally 5 working days after the shoot. If you’re in a hurry, say so and we can even do a same day delivery (at an extra fee)

My one or two person home studio is in between the Schuman Square and the Plasky Square. Very easy to reach by car, bus and metro.

Tips for everyone

• Wear clothes that are comfortable and that make you feel and look great.

• • Bring 2-3 changes of clothing to have choices on set.

  • Clothes should be neatly pressed and should be new or look new.

  • Avoid busy patterns, bold graphics, and distracting stripes and don't wear phones etc. in these clothings.

  • Cream, beige, pastels, peach or yellow colors typically don’t work well on camera.

  • Don’t cut or dye your hair right before the shoot. A new haircut looks its best after a week, and freshly colored hair can look too vibrant and unnatural on camera.

  • Make sure to get enough sleep the night before the shoot and drink lots of water.

  • Do research and look at examples you like. Show them to your photographer well in advance.

  • Have a look in the mirror. Try to exercise with posing, where to put your arms, how to smile or not...

Ladies

1. The standard corporate look is a suit jacket and blouse.

1. For a no-jacket casual look, bring solid colored blouses or collared shirts that are darker than your skin tone. Keep patterns to a minimum.

1. A white blouse by itself isn’t recommended unless you plan to wear it under something.

1. Don’t wear sleeveless tops or dresses unless worn under a jacket or sweater. Bare arms can be distracting.

1. Avoid shiny and sheer fabrics.

1. Keep jewelry simple – small is better.

1. Avoid statement jewelry that would distract from your face or that looks dated or too trendy. The picture is about your face, not the jewelry.

Gents

The standard corporate look is a suit jacket, dress shirt and tie

A casual business look can be an open jacket and shirt, collared shirt under a thin sweater, or button-down shirt with rolled cuffs.

Short sleeves are typically not recommended for guys, even for casual looks. Exception to the rule are branded company polos or t-shirts.

Wear solid colored shirts or small darker patterns.

A white dress shirt by itself doesn’t work well on camera unless you plan to wear it underneath a jacket or sweater.

• Bring a v-neck undershirt or no undershirt at all so it doesn’t show.

• Make sure your jackets and shirts fit you properly. Not too tight. Not too loose. A poor fitting jacket or shirt will be obvious in the photos especially around the neck and shoulders.

• Don’t wear shiny ties or fabrics.

• The best rule of thumb for facial hair is to commit to your look- either a beard, mustache, or nothing at all. Anything scruffy or stubbly in between is not advisable. If you have a beard, trim it evenly so it’s nicely groomed. If you’re going clean-shaven, get a good shave the morning of your headshot

• After you’ve checked all of these pre-photoshoot to-do’s off your list, you’ll be ready to take professional company headshots that make you look amazing. You may want to get really creative and break some best-practice rules for headshots. We’re all for breaking rules. Just make sure the results are better off for it.

• Most importantly – have fun with this. If you do this at the office for the entire team: It’s a great way to get your team bonding!

Ha, Great question. With the tight frame of the headshot we can make people smile, relax, look into the camera, or not. But talking more editorial portraits, you can present yourself much differntly.

We can even use digital backgrounds or entire on location fashion like shoots here in Brussels. Remember, the process of developing an more original headshot, even outdoor, will take more time and effort, so more budget for the assignment.
