L’Image élargie (The Expanded Image): The boundaries of photography

Rethinking photography through material, texture and form

Visiting dates from 5 to 29 November 2026

What happens when photography moves beyond the image?

L’image élargie (The Expanded Image) brings together eight artists from the Usquare studios in Brussels who explore the evolving relationship between photography, materiality and contemporary artistic practice.

In an age dominated by digital images and screens, this exhibition invites visitors to rediscover photography as something tangible. Through a dialogue with weaving, painting, collage, analogue photographic processes and 3D printing, the artists transform images into textures, patterns, objects and sculptural structures.

Rather than treating photography solely as a two-dimensional representation of reality, the exhibition explores its potential to become a physical presence, opening up new ways of making, experiencing and interpreting images.

Featuring works by Maëlle Maisonneuve, Meriem Steiner, Colin Fincoeur, Ben Coosmans, Miguel Cipriano, Sander de Wilde, Nicolas Andry and Amandine David, the exhibition offers a collective exploration of the expanded possibilities of photography.

Curated by Miguel Cipriano. Produced by Image Fantôme.
