Fashion Magazine styled portraits
I shoot models in my home studio or outdoors to capture the unique energy each environment brings to a session. The controlled setting of my home studio allows me to experiment with lighting and composition, creating intimate and precise portraits that highlight the model’s features without distraction. On the other hand, shooting outdoors injects a fresh, dynamic element into the visuals — the natural light, changing weather, and organic backdrops add depth and spontaneity, making each shot feel alive and authentic. This blend of indoor precision and outdoor vitality ensures every image tells its own playful story.

How we work/what to think about before you book a shooting photo
Essentials we do to plan before the shoot
Purpose: Define what the photo must communicate — portrait, corporate headshot, editorial story, product shot, event coverage.
Audience: Who will view and use the image? Media, clients, social, annual report.
Style & mood: Playful, formal, moody, bright, candid. Pick a short visual brief: colours, contrast, poses, props.
Format & deliverables: Crop ratios, resolution, vertical vs horizontal, number of final selects, retouch level, file types.
Logistics: Location, date & time, permits, access, parking, power, weather backup.
Team & kit: Photographer, assistant, stylist, make-up, art director; camera bodies, lenses, lights, grip, tripod, reflectors, spare batteries, memory cards.
On-set workflow with us.
Start with quick test shots: check exposure, white balance, focus, composition.
Communicate the brief and mood to the subject concisely; show examples if available.
Use simple directions and playful prompts to relax subjects: give actions, not rigid poses.
Work from wide to tight: establish scene, then step in for headshots and details.
Constantly review highlights and shadows; protect skin tones and avoid clipping.
Keep an eye on background distractions and fix them swiftly.
Frame sequences for editing: capture small variations (expression, head tilt, eye line) to give options.
Lighting recipes we work with
Natural light portrait: window light at 45°, reflector on opposite side, shoot with wide aperture (f/1.8–f/4) for shallow depth.
Single-strobe headshot: softbox 45° above subject, reflector or fill at 1–2 stops less, black flag to control spill.
Environmental product: key light + rim light to separate subject from background, use gels for playful colour accents.
Event reportage: on-camera bounce or small flash with diffuser, slower shutter for ambient + flash for freeze.
Technical Composition & camera settings (guidelines)
Aperture for portraits: f/1.8–f/4 for subject separation; f/5.6–f/11 for groups or product detail.
Shutter speed: keep above reciprocal of focal length for handheld; faster for action.
ISO: lowest that achieves desired shutter/aperture; raise for creative grain or low light.
Focus: use single-point AF for eyes; back-button focus for control.
Eye level: generally at subject’s eye line; vary for creative effect.
Negative space: use it to tell the story or place copy for editorial/corporate layouts.
Directing people (quick tips)
Warm-up with easy, non-photogenic actions: laugh, look away, walk, talk about a memory.
Use tactile cues: ask subject to adjust chin, shoulders or hands lightly.
Capture candid moments between posed frames — the natural beats are gold.
Positive reinforcement: show selects on the camera to build confidence.
Selecting and delivering images
Cull ruthlessly: pick images that match the brief and show variety.
Light retouching: skin smoothing, colour correction, exposure balancing, minor blemish removal.
Maintain natural texture; avoid over-smoothing.
Deliver a set of web-optimised and print-ready files, with clear naming and metadata.
Provide usage guidance and licences with final files.
Pre-shoot checklist (practical items)
Confirm call sheet with time, meeting point and contact numbers.
Scout location or request reference photos.
Charge batteries, format memory cards, bring backups.
Pack prime lenses (35mm, 50mm, 85mm) and a zoom (24–70 or 24–105).
Bring a short tele for portraits (85–135mm equivalent) and a wide for environmental shots.
Lighting: one key strobe, one fill or reflector, modifiers (softbox, umbrella), gels if needed.
Grip: C-stands, sandbags, clamps, gaffer tape.
Colour: grey card, colour chart, white balance tools.
Comfort: water, snacks, hair/brief touch-up kit, wardrobe steamers.
Releases: model and property release forms printed and ready.
