Why this Peter Hujar Photography experience?
Brussels photographer Sander de Wilde doesn't just share Hujar’s aesthetic—he is fascinated by Peter Hujar’s work and life. And the premiere of the movie ; Peter Hujar’s Day is the perfect beginning of this experience. Learn to shoot and print analog portrait photography with a twin lens camera.
“Learn how Peter Hujar used simplicity, square compositions and natural light to create portraits that still feel timeless today.”
This 2 days workshop is a personal tribute to a master of the craft, offering students a rare chance to work in a fully equipped analog studio with a mentor who lives and breathes the medium. You’ll learn to see light and portraits differently, shooting square images with twin lens cameras.
After the shooting day you’ll develop and print the films yourself in the darkroom.
Peter Hujar was one of the most influential American photographers of the 20th century, best known for his black-and-white artist portraits and nude studies.
Step into the world of Peter Hujar. Spend two Saturdays shooting square-format portraits on film, develop your own negatives and create handmade silver gelatin prints in a professional Brussels darkroom.
Peter Hujar’s Day is based on Linda Rosenkrantz’ book about her one day interview with Hujar. You can check the movie trailer right here.

“Thank you Sander for your creativity, your enthusiasm and your passion. It has been a great experience both fun and liberating to take pictures during the street walks in the street photo course and also meditative and calming developing and printing in the dark room for the analogic picture course. A great experience to learn, to experience, to share and to create.”
