street photography course

Shooting the streets in Brussels, it’s an art. You can learn it too.

Through many hours of workshops, you will gain a deeper understanding of street photography techniques, storytelling, and the art of capturing interesting moments in bustling cityscapes.

Sander organises a newly designed street photography series starting September 2026 and ending with an exhibition opening around Christmas.

Included are many weekend walks, and bold reviews of your work, where you gain insight in how to read photography and oppose criticism. We learn from other street shooters, and we end the series with a real opening night of your best work at the Cultural Center of Ixelles.

Don't just take photos—show them

Is this you?

  • You love taking photos, but feel awkward pointing your camera at strangers?

  • You walk through the city but struggle to find "the shot"?

  • You understand the technical settings but your photos lack "soul"?

"This workshop fixes that.

Following a street photography project over many weeks unlocks a unique and immersive experience. It’s not just about a single moment , but a rich tapestry of stories unfolding over time. You witness the subtle rhythms of urban life, the changing light, the evolving moods, and the spontaneous interactions that reveal the soul of a city.

By following consistently, you develop a deeper connection with the photographer’s vision and style. You start to see recurring themes, hidden details, and the playful creativity that transforms everyday scenes into compelling visual narratives. It’s a journey that sharpens your eye, enhances your appreciation for the unexpected, and invites you to participate in the unfolding story.

In short, committing to a street photography series offers a rewarding, dynamic experience that an isolated image simply can’t match. I

t’s an invitation to see the world anew, one street at a time, through the lens of a storyteller who’s passionate about capturing life’s unposed moments. You!

Theory nights are at GC Elzenhof, walks are in small groups or solo in the center of Brussels.

Brussels is your stage!

Learn how to capture the decisive moment, how to use composition to tell a story, and how to remain unnoticed in the urban flow. This course combines evening sessions on theory and editing at GC Elzenhof with practical Street Walks in various Brussels neighborhoods.

We conclude the series with a group show of your best work.

Thursday evenings + Sunday walks | Starts Sept 24 | Price: €275

    • Technical Skills: Thorough knowledge of camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), composition, framing and working with natural light.

    • Creative Freedom: Learn to consciously break the rules of photography to develop your own photographic voice and style.

    • Digital & Smartphone Techniques: Opportunity to experiment with black and white, or even getting the most out of your smartphone.

    • Ethical Awareness: An understanding of the legislation and ethics surrounding street photography and photographing people in public spaces.

    • Exhibition Experience: Most courses end with a real exhibition of your work in Brussels (e.g. at GC Elzenhof), including guidance on selection and printing.

    • Small Groups & Personal Coaching: Intensive guidance in groups of up to 6 to 10 people for direct feedback.

    • Meeting like minded people in a relaxed atmosphere in Brussels

  • You’re happy to use any camera you have on hand. Street photographers often prefer small cameras, compacts or even a smartphone for their low profile, but truly any camera will do. It’s more about you — how you observe and respond to the world around you — than about who owns the fanciest gear.

  • Even if you can’t make every theory lesson or photo walk, you still have the chance to learn. Sander uses a WhatsApp group and a shared cloud drive to keep everyone connected. The group shares their work, we chat about good spots, suggest exercises and recommend exhibitions worth visiting. You’re free to go out and shoot on your own at other times too. In fact, the more you practice whenever you can, the steeper and faster your learning curve will be.

  • Because we are a group, we’ll learn together, we’ll shoot together, and we’ll inspire one another. Working hands-on and actively over three months will throw you into the deep end of street photography. In fact, your life will never be quite the same. Sander shares with you all the ins and outs of (street) photography — from ethics and techniques to composition, plus insights into the history of street photography and contemporary perspectives. You’ll see the world around you differently, and on top of that, the lessons are just much fun and very active. You’ll learn no know all the streets of Brussels, get trained in walking the town and grow muscles!
