Explore the art of silver gelatin printing
Really great workshop with Sander and a dynamic group. Lots of information given in a few hours but enough to finally understand the mysteries of photography from the camera to the paper.

About my Hands-On Photography lessons
My photography classes are meant to be fun and have a steep learning curve. This is how I would like a photography class to be myself.
I believe in learning by doing, so expect these courses to be hands-on photography workshops every lesson again !
In every photography course the basics of photography comes back, tailored for your level. If you are a beginner or an experienced photographer, my workshops will always inspire you to reach new levels in your photography practice.
The classes in Brussels start mostly at GC Elzenhof in Ixelles and the lingua Franca is mostly English.
I work with Superprof, Wecandoo, Avansa, and Sasasa photo schools to teach photo lessons in French and Dutch.
I offer both private 2-hour sessions, half-day workshops, and longer courses lasting several months.
What makes these photo courses truly stand out from the rest?
Sander’s brains weren’t made for traditional schooling.
That’s why he blends creativity and technique in dynamic photography classes, without long and boring theoretic sessions. He mostly starts with 30 minutes theory, a practical exercise, feedback, more thoughts, and another exercise? So take your camera to every lesson. You’ll need it!
His playful style encourages experimentation and personal expression. With a background in authentic portraits and visual stories, Sander offers practical insights beyond the basics with fun exercises..
He promotes hands-on learning through engaging workshops that challenge aspiring photographers to think even more creatively. Focusing on storytelling and experimenting, he guides students towards better visuals. This dynamic approach inspires a lasting love for photography.
The atmosphere during all his lessons is relaxed and dynamic at the same time. You’ll never feel like going to school, you’ll feel like really learning something new in a fun way. Between the lessons your mind will work with the new inspiration, challenging your own borders.
Sander speaks several languages so whatever language you speak, you’ll be able to follow!
FAQ on the photography courses
-
Yes, you can take free classes online, or do a free photo walks in every major city. Still, a real photography workshop with theory and hands on actions is a useful experience. Even better is following a course over a few month, a year or even a few years, to find your photographic voice.
In a world full of free tutorials and quick hacks, you might wonder, "Do I need classes or workshops to learn photography?" There are many benefits to learning it yourself, but professional training can be a game-changer.
Here’s how:
Structured Learning, Simplified:
Self-teaching is fantastic, but a mess of trial and error. Classes provide a structured roadmap. Think about assembling IKEA furniture without a guide. Painful, right?
In a class, you learn everything step-by-step:
Basics of composition
Mastery of camera settings
Lighting techniques
Advanced post-processing
And this isn’t just random content, it’s designed to cater to your skill and development.
Hands-On Experience:
Photography is not something you get by reading about or by using AI to catch that info from youtube. It’s something you learn through experience.
Workshops in particular are focused on hands-on learning:
Night photographing to test out low-light skills
Model shoots to understand portrait photography
City walks to practice street photography
Learning hands-on with expert guidance makes a world of difference.
This training will allow you to become a photographer rather than a mere camera operator

What to think about before buying that ticket
Instructor Quality: Research the instructor's expertise, teaching style, and industry standing; a great photographer isn't always a great teacher.
Workshop Focus: Ensure the workshop's genre and goals match your own (e.g., technical skills vs. artistic vision). Reach out to the teacher before subscribing.
Cost vs. Value: Be realistic about investment, but understand the concentrated learning can be more valuable than years of scattered learning. (say Eric Kim and Pixel Institute of Photography and Sander de Wilde)

I speak a few languages, but most of my lessons are conducted in English. Since I also speak Dutch, French, and German fluently, I can easily translate all the information into any language you prefer during the lessons, making the learning experience smooth and personalized for you.
-
My workshops are thoughtfully designed to accommodate all skill levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner just starting out, or you already have a grasp of concepts like aperture and depth of field, each course will revisit the fundamentals of photography in clear and approachable ways. The Advance photography course that I organise every now and then on the other hand, is tailored for those who already feel comfortable navigating photography intuitively and want to deepen their creative expression.
-
I strive to create class environment where participants feel inspired and empowered to explore their creativity. Ultimately, I want each student to walk away not only with improved skills but also with a newfound confidence in their photographic journey. I don’t believe in theory classes. Of course I will talk about the theory behind photographers, and You’ll get the insides of the technical side of photography but my main goal is learning by doing
Think
Street shots
portrait shots
composition
framing
looking in black and white
breaking the rules
finding your voice

My workshops always start with action! I don’t like to do the introduction round with you students.
We will get to know each other using photography.
All lessons are hands on, where we take some theory at hand right away during class, often the first half hour and than we shoot. So always take your camera!
-
That’s ok. Of course it is usefull to have a camera to learn on. Maybe you can borrow one of a family member. Otherwise you could also learn framing and exposure on your smartphone, but for most courses it is better to have a camera.
We also have cameras you can rent during classes, both digital and analog.
Sometimes it is even a great way to learn to know what camera is best for you as a future camera. Learn before you buy!
-
That’s no problem. Smartphones have great cameras built in nowadays. Most exercises can be done with advanced smartphones, even in manual. These smartphone often have more then one lens, so using them in the lessons is ok. Some exercise using manual settings are impossible with some phones, and using a viewfinder in a real camera can make a big difference in framing, but you’ll manage without too.
-
OK, no problem. Even if you miss one or a few lessons. After each lesson I will send all students a resume, a short letter about everything we did in our last course or a link to my secret student pages online, where you can reread what we discovered in our last lesson. With it can be tips, links to youtube movies or exercises to work on.
Every class communicates with each other in a closed circuit through social media. A Drive in the cloud is available to download the lessons and to upload your homework.
-
A notebook and a pencil can be useful but do bring your camera for every lesson too, because next to theory, I think it’s very important to touch and use your camera every lesson, even at night. So fill up those batteries and empty those cards, because most of the workshops exist of 70% hands on exercises, and 30% theory.
-
After a few lessons you’ll feel that you’re entering the photographic arena at another level. All courses end up with some sort of exhibition, be it a projection of the students’ work or a real exhibition with prints of your work on the walls of a exhibition space. During the courses we will often look at each others work, without prejudice, just to learn from each other.
-
I also do one time (private) Master classes on several issues, like flash photography, corporate photography smart-phone photography, etc.
Maybe you have certain personal niche photography requests that I can help you with? Just order that private photography lesson online and we’ll find a date to work on your questions.
The Wecandoo workshops can be privatised easily on their website, but any other lesson or subject is negotiable too.
-
All our workshops can also be specially designed as engaging team building events. Feel free to contact me, and together we will create a unique workshop that perfectly suits you and your coworkers. The goal is to make it both useful and fun at the same time, fostering collaboration and creativity within your team. This works for the analog experiences and all other photographic experiences, from full day street walks, to 2 hour hands on analog fun.
-
After the course you get a nicely designed certificate on quality paper, with the Sander de Wilde logo and signed by your instructor. It shows the course title, length and skills you learned — perfect for your studio wall, portfolio or job applications.
This is only for the Sander de Wilde and Kunstkot courses Sander offers here. Not for the workshops or courses organised by other organisations.
You can’t get this after the half day workshops, just after the courses that run several months.
Creative Team building events in Belgium
Photography Workshops as teambuilding events are a great idea.
Digital or analog workshops, experiences and talks on Artificial Intelligence or so called DIGI Cafés for seniors or coworkers, it’s all possible.
Contact me if you want to know more about this.
Private lessons can be booked for 1 or 2 persons.
These photography workshops fully booked?
You can always privatise a workshop for a group of friends or as an event for your company.
Otherwise leave your email and I will send you my latest info with new dates for the coming workshops every few months personally.
Go on TikTok or Instagram right now and search for #streetphotography. You’ll see a very specific type of video: a photographer walks up to a stranger, asks to take their photo, directs them to pose, and then shows a "POV" shot of the result.
