Yes, you can take free classes online, or do a free photo walks in every major city. Still, a real photography workshop with theory and hands on actions is a useful experience. Even better is following a course over a few month, a year or even a few years, to find your photographic voice.

In a world full of free tutorials and quick hacks, you might wonder, "Do I need classes or workshops to learn photography?" There are many benefits to learning it yourself, but professional training can be a game-changer.

Here’s how:

Self-teaching is fantastic, but a mess of trial and error. Classes provide a structured roadmap.  Think about assembling IKEA furniture without a guide. Painful, right?  

In a class, you learn everything step-by-step:

Ultimately, I want each student to walk away not only with improved skills but also with a newfound confidence in their photographic journey. I don’t believe in theory classes. Of course I will talk about the theory behind photographers, and You’ll get the insides of the technical side of photography but my main goal is learning by doing

My workshops always start with action! I don’t like to do the introduction round with you students.

We will get to know each other using photography.

All lessons are hands on, where we take some theory at hand right away during class, often the first half hour and than we shoot. So always take your camera!

That’s ok. Of course it is usefull to have a camera to learn on. Maybe you can borrow one of a family member. Otherwise you could also learn framing and exposure on your smartphone, but for most courses it is better to have a camera.

We also have cameras you can rent during classes, both digital and analog.

Sometimes it is even a great way to learn to know what camera is best for you as a future camera. Learn before you buy!

That’s no problem. Smartphones have great cameras built in nowadays. Most exercises can be done with advanced smartphones, even in manual. These smartphone often have more then one lens, so using them in the lessons is ok. Some exercise using manual settings are impossible with some phones, and using a viewfinder in a real camera can make a big difference in framing, but you’ll manage without too.

OK, no problem. Even if you miss one or a few lessons. After each lesson I will send all students a resume, a short letter about everything we did in our last course or a link to my secret student pages online, where you can reread what we discovered in our last lesson. With it can be tips, links to youtube movies or exercises to work on.

Every class communicates with each other in a closed circuit through social media. A Drive in the cloud is available to download the lessons and to upload your homework.

A notebook and a pencil can be useful but do bring your camera for every lesson too, because next to theory, I think it’s very important to touch and use your camera every lesson, even at night. So fill up those batteries and empty those cards, because most of the workshops exist of 70% hands on exercises, and 30% theory.

After a few lessons you’ll feel that you’re entering the photographic arena at another level. All courses end up with some sort of exhibition, be it a projection of the students’ work or a real exhibition with prints of your work on the walls of a exhibition space. During the courses we will often look at each others work, without prejudice, just to learn from each other.

I also do one time (private) Master classes on several issues, like flash photography, corporate photography smart-phone photography, etc.
